Product Description: A well-shaped fossil tooth of Daspletosaurus Trosus, the ancestor of that Tyrannosaurus Rex, the late Cretaceous North American king. Judith River Formation
This is a Daspletosaurus tooth fossil collected from the Campanian stratum in Alberta, Canada.
The name Daspletosaurus means "terrible lizard".
It is a top predator that reigned at the top of the food chain in western North America about 75 million years ago.
It is known as a very close ancestor to that Tyrannosaurus Rex that will appear several million years later.
Like Tyrannosaurus Rex, it had short front legs, thick hind legs, and extremely strong jaws.
This fossil tooth is 52 mm in long curve measurement, which is quite large for a Daspletosaurus tooth fossil.
The whole shape is preserved and draws a beautiful curve. Daspletosaurus was a giant predator that grew to 8 to 9 meters and weighed 2.5 tons.
Considering that an adult brown bear, the largest predator in Japan, can grow up to less than 3 meters and weigh about 300 kilograms, you can see how huge it was.
There is no other predator in the world like this.
You can see it from a slightly oblique angle, but the root is thick. It also has a circumference of 55 mm.
This thick form is unmistakably an adult tooth fossil.
It is a natural tooth fossil that has not been repaired since it was collected.
It is a truly delicious gem with many wrinkles remaining on the surface.
Let's take a look at the inner serration (the jagged part). Although it is a part that is prone to wear and tear, it is beautifully preserved.
I took a close-up shot. A granular structure, the smallest component of the serrations, remains. Please use a magnifying glass of 4 or 5 times.
It is a splendid grain that can only be tasted with natural specimens.
Comparison with 100 yen coin. A wonderful form with a thick root like an adult tooth fossil.
And let's take a look again.
Numerous serrations that would have cut flesh 75 million years ago.
If you look at it with a magnifying glass, it gives you goosebumps.
52 mm by long curve measurement.
There is also 55 mm around the root that exceeds it.
It is unmistakably an adult tooth fossil.
Comparison with 100 yen coin. It is a good-shaped tooth fossil of Daspletosaurus, which is considered to be the ancestor of Tyrannosaurus Rex, the champion of western North America 75 million years ago.
